NIE part 2

Plan, plan and plan again. We landed in Spain for our holiday / search for a house on Friday 11 September. Our appointment to get our NIE is 15 September at 9.30am, sensibly early to have it ready for when we decide to rent.

More planning required! Before you can collect your NIE you must be able to prove you have paid the tax at a bank beforehand.

Four days, fine but... Friday arrival was too late to get to a bank. Banks are shut Saturday and Sunday. Monday we get to the bank to discover that due to Covid non customers only seen Wednesday afternoons. Time to panic. Rang MyNIE.co.uk and found out you can pay the tax at an ATM - don't think that is available in UK yet.

Arrive at ATM and need an NIE number to access the system. MyNIE give me this and a very helpful Spanish gentleman showed me how to scan the barcode on the tax form and how to pay cash into the ATM. Took about 15 minutes altogether. Then had to do it all over again - cos there are two of us! Made sure we had receipts to prove we had paid and left for a large drink.

MyNIE were amazing helpful and so we are ready for our visit to the police station tomorrow.
